IPC – Innovative Polymer Compounds recently attended the OrthoManufacture annual conference held at the Congress Centre Metrotech, Saint Étienne from 11th – 12th May 2022. In attendance at the event were surgeons, medical implant manufacturers, institutional researchers and members from the orthopaedics, traumatology, spine and dental manufacturing industries.
The Orthomanufacture event provided IPC with a platform to introduce the involvement in the innovative field of 3D printing and Bioprinting through the European project: CHIRON (www.chiron-biotech.com)
Medical Polymer Compounds manufactured by IPC are converted into powder, The compounds are pulverized into a 3D printable powder (60um – 80um) to be used for example in the Conr3de Binderjet printer for bioprinting. IPC’s involvement in this innovative project includes the manufacturing of bio-resorbable Polymer Compounds with Osseo conductive additives such as Hydroxyapatite and Beta-TCP. IPC produce these compounds using twin screw extrusion technology in its ISO 13485 manufacturing environment.
The medical polymer compounds manufactured by IPC can be also converted into 3D filaments for use in Medical 3D Printing applications. Following recent investment in new lines, the lot sizes for these Medical Compounds is reduced to 1-5kg for developmental projects. In addition, our new 3D filament maker will enable us to get more involved in this exciting sector. This investment will allow us to supply our Medical Polymer Compounds in a 3D filament format in line with customer requirements. Medical 3D applications include Orthopaedic, Dental, Maxillofacial and Cranial applications.
Orthomanufacture was also the opportunity to introduce IPC-Innovative Polymer Compounds and our knowledge in compounding of Medical Grade Engineering Polymers to the French orthopaedic market. IPC manufacture compounds under ISO 13485 with bioactive ceramic such as hydroxyapatite, β TCP and absorbable polymer or non-absorbable polymer (PEEK) to meet the needs of bioactive composite used in orthopaedics fields. These biomaterials are well known to produce bioactive interference screws, cranial implants, maxillofacial implants and bioactive Interbody Cages for Spine.
